Does Foreign Policy Need Religion?

This is a topic in the news at present, I suppose more so over the conflicts in the Middle East including Iraq and Afghanistan .
It appears now that with all the military hardware that went into the region, western governments are still no further forward with their objective, what ever that is?
But people in western domains are beginning to realise the importance of religion in bringing about peace and dialogue.
Some might argue its religion that has and causes most conflicts?, although I beg to differ.
The west have failed not to include religion in their foreign policy because frankly the west does not do God. But perhaps its time to rethink the strategy.
